Virtual care network for maternity health
Early in the digital health revolution, Kate Ryder recognized the need for a more equitable approach to healthcare across the women’s and family health continuum. Too many people suffered from a lack of access to quality care when they needed it during their family journey, which resulted in the United States having both the highest cost of care and the worst outcomes among OECD countries.
SMC shared Kate’s vision for a virtual care platform that could meet the multitude of needs people have as they grow their families. Since leading the company’s Series A round in 2017, the firm has had a front-row seat to Maven’s explosive growth. Today, Maven serves patients in more than 100 countries through its partnerships with leading global employers and payers, offering an ever-expanding suite of products that include support for those going through preconception, fertility, adoption, surrogacy, parenting, and menopause journeys. In 2021, Maven became the first company dedicated to women’s and family health to be valued at more than $1 billion.
Governance, risk, and compliance for enterprise collaboration platforms
Jeff saw the emergence of workplace chat platforms in the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic. After offices shut down across the country, usage of Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom exploded as companies quickly adapted to conversational chat platforms as a middle ground between email and in person communication. Just like with email, companies have started to realize the need to secure collaboration data and to leverage it to better understand the voice of the employee.
Revolutionizing clinical trials via digital biomarkers and remote monitoring
While at Merck, Chris Benko understood that the clinical trial space lacked the data they needed to properly understand the efficacy of various therapeutics, particularly those serving CNS (Central Nervous System) disease states.
He set out to build a business around the emerging use of third party devices to track digital biomarkers, or so-called digital endpoints which would then be analyzed through proprietary algorithms. We share Chris’ vision that this data set is easier to collect, opens up many more patients for clinical trials and is now an objective measurement of success (vs. traditional subjective means).
GovTech SaaS for regulatory licensing organizations
Government has historically lagged behind most other industries in the area of digital transformation, which Julian set out to change. His premise for starting Thentia was built on the idea that regulatory agencies could better serve the public and their licensees by centralizing and modernizing all critical requirements and workflows. Over the years, the platform has expanded beyond license management to include a broad set of cloud applications with offerings such as payments, continuing education, and communications management.
